5 Things About Link Building Webmasters Should Avoid
Posted: July 10, 2013 by Alex Chan
In the old days of SEO, links were like votes. Websites that had the most links were regarded as the most popular and most important. Webmasters used many tactics to build links for their websites. In today's SEO, the number of links today doesn't really show the true value of a page. That is just one reason Google continues to update their search algorithms to prevent bad quality websites from ranking up top. It's now all about content, quality, and presence. The 3 new attributes can still be demonstrated by link building, but there are new things to watch out for.
Here are some tips that webmasters should look for when link building:
1. Quantity instead of quality
This is something that Google has been constantly repeating when it comes to links. Yes, more links raise your sites popularity. However, it's no longer just about the number of links, but their quality. What makes a quality link? It's simple, the link needs to be relevant, anchor supportive, and the link should come from a quality source. Simply creating 20 blogs, interlinking them, and spamming anchors won't work anymore. A website will probably even get in trouble for it.
2. Use "Content marketing" for link building
Content marketing is something companies can take advantage of to keep their customers well informed. Providing new information on products is proven to be good for the business, and keeps the customer happy. However, its primary goal should not be focused on informing.
3. Promote others instead of oneself
Many good new sites get lost in the process of SEO. Between guest blogging, writing for links, and joint ventures, many webmasters forget about their own sites. Instead of putting content on other sites for a few links, remember to write for your own website.
4. Write too many articles
For the past few years, "content" was the only thing that everyone talked about. We all know the famous phrase "Content is King". Mass article submission, on the other hand, is not good for SEO. It is always better to write one very good article than writing 5 that offer absolutely nothing.
5. Spin the same content
"Content spinning" is something that has become very popular these days. Changing a few words from an old article and giving it a new title does not make it "new content". SEO is all about being creative when it comes to promoting your website.
