Relative Link

A relative link is a link that is shorter than the absolute link and it decreases the time required to download a page. In this case the search engine' spiders already know the location of the document in question. This generally means that if you wish to link to a different document from the same directory, you don't need to write the entire URL. The domain name is not present in the relative link.

An example of a relative link is: <a href="pagename.html">anchor text</a>
