Introducing Instagram Video
Posted: June 25, 2013 by Alex Chan
Instagram, the most popular photo sharing application, started supporting video sharing. The application will offer its users the ability to choose between creating an image or a 15-second video. Just like the images, videos can be manipulated with familiar filters.
For a fairly new application, Instagram has made an enormous success. Since it was first introduced in 2010, the application has reached 130 million users. People have uploaded more than 6 billion photos on it, and there are over 1 billion likes almost every single day. It seemed that video sharing was the next logical step.
In just 24 hours since the video support became available, more than 5 million videos were uploaded. The upload times maybe a bit slower, but this is normal when dealing with video files. With this new platform, Instagram will become Vine's greatest rival. The two applications have a similar concept of video making. Vine allows you to make a short clip of 6 seconds while Instagram's videos can last up to 15 seconds. However, Instagram offers the possibility of using filters on the videos which in some cases may turn an average video into a fairly good one.
