Posted: November 21, 2013 by Alex Chan
Always tackling prevailing issues, Google's head of search spam, Matt Cutts, released another video in which he discussess the following question: "Is it necessary for each single page within my website to have a unique metatag description?"
According to Matt, the best case is either to have unique meta description for each page or not to have meta descriptions at all. As for duplicate meta descriptions, he strongly advises you to avoid them.
Actually, Matt admitted that he doesn't add meta descriptions to his own blog posts on his own blog.
Long story short, it's far better to leave your meta descriptions blank and let Google decide what to show in the search snippets than to have duplicate meta descriptions on your site.
