Google's Head of Spam explained that by using rel="author" structured data, the search engine will be able to understand the content on the web more easily and thus improve its search capabilities. By adding identity to content, it will be much easier to understand the authority and trust. Officials at Google excited by the coming of rel="author" according to Cutts. They still provide support for anonymity of speech, however, using this new tag will allow Google to highlight famous authors or better rank notable pieces of work.
