Pure Oxygen Labs, a mobile marketing agency, has released a review showing only 6 out of 100 Fortune 500 companies are ready for the changes Google is bringing to mobile SEO. The 6 companies are Disney, GE, Humana, JP Morgan, HCA Healthcare, and Google. All 100 companies that took part in the analysis were based on 3 criteria:
- If their desktop page redirects smartphone users to their mobile page
- How such redirection is handled
- If the site's pages have a design formatted for mobile
The results showed that if Google were to update the search rankings tomorrow, most of the top fortune 500 companies would have their rankings dropped significantly.
At the SMX Advanced Conference in Seattle, Matt Cutts announced that companies must start focusing more on mobile. According to Cutts, mobile SEO has become quite significant with the rise of smartphone usage around the world. Google has not released any official statements when the mobile updates will be available, but they urge companies to prepare themselves for the upcoming changes.
