A week after the PRISM scandal hit the US, many alternative search engines like StartPage, Ixquick, DuckDuckGo, and many more, announced record breaking numbers in daily search. Alternative search engines that have no connection to PRISM are growing rapidly. It shows that the public has already started taking precautions when it comes to their privacy.
StartPage and Ixquick have announced they reached 3.4 million searches for the first time in history. Another small search engine, DuckDuckGo reached 2 million searches. The CEO of StartPage and Ixquick announced that the increase in search was mainly due to the PRISM scandal. Many expect that this trend will continue as people feel betrayed by the privacy violations.
