PETMAN Can Walk Your Dog

In 2005, Boston Dynamics created Big Dog, the quadrupedal robot that kind of looks like the Imperial AT-AT Walker from "Star Wars". The Big Dog iss 110 kg the robot is the size of a mule. It has a capacity to carry up to 150 kg and run as fast as 6.4 km an hour. The robot's entire locomotion, navigation and balance are controlled by the various systems in his computer. Big Dog was mainly developed to join military soldiers and help them carry heavy equipment. It almost looks too bulky for practical use but I can think of a few fun applications for something like this.
Now, if you thought Big Dog is could be something you could sink your teeth into, there's PETMAN! Boston Dynamics' latest development is a humanoid robot called PETMAN. PETMAN is short for Protection Ensemble Test Mannequin. Dressed in a hazard suit and wearing a gas-mask, this robot brings back memories of every biological incident movie you've ever seen. PETMAN was specially designed for the Advanced Research Project Agency within the Department of Defense to operate as a military robot. Without its clothes, it looks like Terminator's distant cousin. Clothes on, he could make a pretty decent distraction. This robot can climb stairs, squat, march, and twist its body and carry out other human-like motions. His main purpose was to test suits for hazardous situations but we can only guess what these robots can do in the near future.
