According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the Model S manufactured by Tesla Motors is the safest car on the US roads with the lowest record of possible injuries to occupants. The electric sedan was compared to all other models of cars currently available in the US market. Besides creating the safest car, Tesla Motors broke a few other records with their Model S vehicle.
The tests included several forms of crashes where the vehicles are graded upon their performances and sustainability. The Model S performed exceptionally on the "high-speed impact" test, where due to its lack of a gasoline engine, the front part of the vehicle was able to sustain and absorb large frontal impact. In other tests like the "side pole intrusion" test, "rear crash" test, and the "rollover" test, the car also performed with the highest scores.
The NHTSA gives vehicles a maximum of 5-star ratings while manufacturers can be awarded more than 5 stars. The Model S respectively earned 5 stars, and Tesla Motors was given a combined score of 5.4 stars. This result verifies the Customer Reports results given to Tesla a few months ago in May when the Model S got a score of 99 out of possible 100.
