Will Linking 2 Sites I Own Bring a Penalty?

Matt Cutts, Head of Webspam at Google, did another helpful YouTube video. If you are a webmaster that owns two or more websites, should you link them together? The fear of course is the almighty penalty.
In this particular case, Kenichi Suzuki from Japan owns two different websites. One website is about fishing in general and the other is about lure fishing. Both site provide high quality content and are linked to one another.
According to Matt Cutts, linking between your websites sites does not violate any Google guidelines. In this case, the two sites contain related content. People interested in one will surely be interested in the other.
There's always a catch. Webmasters must make sure the number of websites interlinking each other can be counted on one hand. Problems can occur when the number of sites becomes ridiculous and reaches a number of tens, or hundreds, of sites. Once that many websites are linking between each other, it starts to look like a link network, and that's another issue.
