Yahoo! Shuts Down Old Email Service
Posted: June 5, 2013 by Maja Johnson
Officially, starting June 3rd, Yahoo has shut down its old email services. The older versions of Yahoo!Mail are no longer be available on the web. Users that have not parted with their old mail versions will have to either upgrade to the latest version offered or close their email account altogether.
The catch behind the old and new versions of the emailing service lies in Yahoo's Terms of Services and Privacy Policy. Once a user agrees to upgrade to the latest version of the email, he or she has to accept the company's policies in order to continue using their mailing service. However, by accepting the terms, users agree that Yahoo! can scan and analyze their email content. With this, the company can deliver users product features of their likings, relevant ads, and monitor certain types of abuse.
This upgrade is mandatory. For those users who don't want to upgrade, Yahoo will not leave any options available. They can either download Yahoo!Mail by using IMAP, or stop using it altogether.
Yahoo has made several changes regarding the email services for its Internet as well as mobile applications. The applications include less buttons, more space and improvements regarding search. This is a step towards their plan to modernize the company and bring back the portal.
