Zuckerberg Visits Samsung – Is A New Facebook Phone On The Horizon?
Posted: June 25, 2013 by Maja Johnson
Mark Zuckerberg's visit to South Korea and Samsung led to a series of rumors that a new Facebook phone could be coming our way. It looks like Zuckerberg is not giving up the idea of placing a Facebook based smartphone on the market, and this time he believes that pairing up with Samsung will be a good business move.
The social network tried to enter the mobile market earlier this year by launching Facebook Home, software that was designed to integrate the social network on a smartphone. The launch of the Facebook Home did not reach their estimated totals and the sales of the HTC First were disappointing.
On the other hand, Samsung was the first company to install Facebook Home as an option on their newest device, the Samsung Galaxy S4. Many believe that Zuckerberg's visit and 30 minute talk with Samsung's President, Park Geun-hye, was a business proposal between the two companies. Korean experts and news reporters believe that if this were to be true, Facebook would be heading for another disappointment. According to the Korean Herald, the tech giant has nothing to gain by making a Facebook phone.
So far there has been no official statement from Facebook or Samsung stating the reasons behind Mark Zuckerberg's visit. It may have been a business meeting, or just a social visit to one of the world's greatest tech companies. Whatever the outcome, we will be patiently waiting for any future cooperation between these two companies.
